A passenger accused of assaulting an Ibom Air crew member on a Uyo–Lagos flight has been charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos.
According to the Minister of Aviation’s media aide, Tunde Moshood, the accused, Miss Comfort Emmanson, was detained after the incident went viral, showing her repeatedly slapping the purser who had asked her to switch off her phone before take-off.
Ibom Air said the confrontation began in Uyo when Emmanson refused to follow safety protocols. Tensions escalated on arrival in Lagos, where she allegedly assaulted the crew member and attempted to seize a fire extinguisher, an act the airline described as a threat to flight safety.
The airline has banned her from future flights, stressing that her behaviour endangered passengers, crew, and the aircraft. The incident comes amid rising cases of disruptive passenger conduct, with authorities warning of stricter penalties.
