Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s lack of effective leadership and failure to meet Nigerians’ governance expectations.

Melaye announced his decision in a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The letter was shared publicly on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” Melaye wrote, describing the party as lacking the capacity to rescue Nigeria from its deepening political and economic crises.

The former PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 Kogi election said his decision followed extensive reflection on the party’s direction and relevance in today’s political landscape.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in its activities or lend my support to its agenda,” he stated.

Melaye also urged the party to regard his letter as a total withdrawal from all party structures and functions with immediate effect. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the PDP platform during his years of political engagement.
