Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has refuted claims that he is seeking the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, Akume described these reports as false and distracting.
He emphasized that his focus remains on fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Akume pointed out that he is not lobbying for any party position and is committed to supporting the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
While acknowledging the capability of other individuals in the North-Central zone to lead the APC, he reiterated that his priority is national development, not party politics. Akume urged the media to verify political claims before publication, highlighting the importance of credible reporting.
He expressed his belief that his achievements are a result of divine grace and support from others, including President Tinubu, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Nigerians benefit from democracy.
