There was confusion within the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State on Tuesday as the state chairman of the party, Aliyu Bello, was declared suspended by the party leadership in his ward, Gayam. Bello’s suspension was announced at a press conference by the ward party chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu.
Iliyasu stated that the party had credible evidence that Bello openly promoted and campaigned for a member of another political party. He invoked Article 21 of the APC constitution, asserting that the suspension was in line with the powers vested in the ward executives.
However, the state chapter of the party passed a vote of confidence on Bello during an executive council meeting, commending his dedication to the party’s development. A statement from the state secretary, Hon. Yarus G. Daguza, described the suspension as unconstitutional and accused certain party executives in Gayam ward of instigating the crisis.
The statement condemned the actions of some members in Gayam Ward for attempting to create confusion and division within the party. It called for a proper investigation to identify the culprits and suggested disciplinary measures against any party official involved in the unconstitutional act.
Additionally, the party expressed confidence in state Governor Abdullahi Sule, praising his leadership during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the state.
