The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, along with the National Auditor, Nnadi Clarkson, and the National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, due to allegations of financial misconduct and misappropriation of party funds.

The decision was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, who stated that the suspended officials were linked to unauthorized financial transactions and personal enrichment schemes without the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC). Gabam’s submission of an unauthorized financial statement to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its publication in newspapers prompted the party to alert law enforcement agencies.

Aiyenigba emphasized that this action reinforces the party’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption. An interim panel has been established to audit all financial records and recommend appropriate disciplinary or legal actions. In line with the party’s constitution, Deputy National Chairman (North), Sadiq Abubakar, has been appointed as the Acting National Chairman.

The party claims that the mismanaged funds amount to hundreds of millions of naira, including proceeds from the 2023 nomination form sales and donations. INEC and relevant agencies have been notified of the suspensions, which take immediate effect.
