The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a manhunt for seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, on May 21, 2025. The escape occurred during an early morning downpour that breached the facility’s security around 2:00 AM.

The incident was confirmed by Abubakar Umar, spokesman for the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), who stated that the Comptroller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

In response to the incident, the NCoS is collaborating with other security agencies and community leaders to recapture the escapees. They have also solicited public assistance in providing information that could lead to their recapture.
