Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared that opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pose no threat to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, made the declaration during an inspection of the ICT/Data Centre at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday. The visit was part of preparations for the party’s upcoming electronic membership registration.
Accompanied by his Kogi State counterpart, Governor Usman Ododo, Uzodinma dismissed concerns raised by the ADC regarding APC’s continued hold on power.
Asked to respond to the ADC’s warning that retaining APC in 2027 would be disastrous for Nigeria, Uzodinma replied, “You called it a claim. It is their claim, not our claim. I know there are only two political parties in Nigeria — the All Progressives Congress and others.”
Speaking further on the e-registration project, the Imo governor said, “We came to evaluate progress on the electronic registration exercise. We inspected the facilities and were highly impressed. We are confident the process will commence fully in no time.”
Uzodinma also expressed the governors’ unanimous support for the new APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, describing him as “a man full of energy and intelligence” and the right choice for the party’s future.
On his part, Yilwatda, who conducted the tour of the data centre, emphasized that the APC remains the dominant party in the country and is leading in the use of technology to strengthen its structure.
“When it comes to APC, we are exemplary. You can see it in the way we relate with our members, the NEC, and the state governors. We are deepening our technology base to know our members, predict voting patterns, and strengthen our reach across the country,” he said.
He added that the digital registration system would enhance research, build party intelligence, and support engagement with members at all levels.
Governor Ododo also reaffirmed the commitment of APC governors to President Bola Tinubu, the national chairman, and the party leadership, assuring them of total loyalty and support in the build-up to the next elections.
Yilwatda Convenes First NWC Meeting
Tuesday also marked the first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting chaired by Professor Yilwatda since his emergence as APC National Chairman during the party’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) session on July 24 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The 177th regular NWC meeting was held at the APC national secretariat. Though the party did not issue a formal communiqué, sources disclosed that the session focused on the upcoming electronic registration and preparations for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
Yilwatda also hosted Governors Uzodinma and Ododo, who inspected the party’s ICT infrastructure in readiness for the e-registration rollout.
