The leadership of the opposition coalition has called for members to resign from their current political parties and fully join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), though no specific deadline for this transition was provided. Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, announced this in Abuja following a caucus meeting with senior party leaders.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dismissed this directive, asserting that it poses no threat to their parties. They emphasize that the ADC’s coalition has not significantly impacted their political standing.

Since the ADC was introduced as a platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections, a few opposition leaders have switched parties, but many, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have not yet formally left their respective parties.

Abdullahi stated that all issues related to the African Democratic Association have been resolved and that all presidential aspirants within the coalition have agreed to support whoever wins the primary elections. He also mentioned that the National Working Committee would soon announce the schedule for primary elections in Osun and Ekiti states.

In response, APC officials downplayed the ADC’s call, asserting that they frequently welcome defectors and that the party continues to grow. PDP leaders welcomed the ADC’s directive as an opportunity to clarify party membership, emphasizing that it would help in identifying true supporters.

The ADC has vowed to rescue Nigeria from what it describes as the failed leadership of the APC, urging citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise and to prepare for the 2027 elections. The party believes it can gain strength and support by addressing issues such as unemployment, poor infrastructure, and lack of agricultural support.

The coalition aims to redefine governance and improve the lives of Nigerians by prioritizing the needs of the people and ending mismanagement. Party leaders have expressed confidence in their vision for a better future, urging citizens to join the ADC in their efforts to bring about change.
