The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State has declared that it will not adopt zoning in selecting its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Bimpe Adelowo, made this known on Thursday in Ibadan, stating that the ADC is focused on merit rather than sectional considerations.

Adelowo explained that the party intends to provide a level playing ground for all aspirants, stressing that competence and the ability to deliver good governance would determine who emerges as candidate.

According to him, zoning the governorship position to any particular zone, including Oke-Ogun, would be meaningless if the eventual candidate lacks the capacity to lead effectively.

He said the ADC is interested in producing a leader who can implement the party’s manifestos, policies and programmes, while ensuring that residents enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Adelowo also commended the people of Oyo State for their resilience despite challenges under the current administration, citing the recent controversy surrounding the circular road project.

He noted that although residents expressed dissatisfaction, their protests remained peaceful without violence or destruction of property.

He urged the people of the state to remain hopeful and actively participate in the political process by supporting ADC candidates across all positions in the 2027 general elections.
