16 Burnt to Death in Ogun Road Crash

At least 16 passengers lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Ogun State on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway around 1:00 PM.

According to reports, the crash involved a white Mazda bus, registered as KJA 949 YJ. Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the details in a statement, noting that the victims were “burnt beyond recognition,” making it difficult to ascertain their identities.

The cause of the accident was identified as a fire outbreak in the vehicle, which was carrying 21 passengers and also contained a filled gas cylinder, leading to an explosion. Okpe reported that 16 people died in the crash, three suffered various degrees of injuries, and two passengers were unharmed.

The injured victims were transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Idi Aba, Abeokuta, while the bodies of the deceased remain at the scene, awaiting evacuation. Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin expressed condolences to the families of the victims and cautioned against transporting highly flammable items without proper precautions and trained drivers.
