The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, has resigned from the state executive council following the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Madawaki confirmed his resignation, stating that his decision was based on loyalty to the PDP, adding that he has no intention of joining the APC.
He dismissed claims that he was forced to resign, insisting that his action was voluntary and guided by personal conviction.
According to him, the governor did not compel any official to leave office or switch parties, maintaining that his resignation was the honourable course.
The resignation has been accepted, with the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announcing that Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam will oversee the Ministry of Education in an acting capacity.
The development follows Governor Lawal’s defection to the APC alongside his deputy, Mani Malam Mummuni, and several members of the state executive council, citing internal issues within the PDP.
Shortly after the defection, the PDP flag was removed from the Zamfara Government House, signalling the official switch to the ruling party.
