On March 24, 2025, youths in Gombe State reportedly looted Ramadan palliative supplies meant for distribution by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Seyi has been visiting northern states to engage with residents during the Ramadan period and to launch feeding programs for the less privileged.

The initiative has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some praising it while others criticize it as insufficient, arguing that the north deserves better than temporary food aid. Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of the Bauchi State Governor, criticized the initiative on Facebook, urging Seyi to implement sustainable empowerment programs instead of providing mere food items.

During the incident in Gombe, youths were seen removing cartons of food, including rice, sugar, oil, salt, and pasta, from a truck parked on the roadside. Reports indicate that two trucks containing 3,500 cartons of these items were allocated to Gombe, but only one truck’s contents had been distributed before the other was intercepted by the angry crowd.

Observers suggest that Seyi’s outreach efforts may be politically motivated, aimed at strengthening his father’s presence in the region amid emerging resistance to President Tinubu’s re-election bid. The APC has not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
