Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, suggesting he will continue to “contest as President on social media” rather than in reality. Wike’s remarks came during the inauguration of newly constructed roads in Mabushi District, Abuja, following Obi’s recent comments about the poor state of public schools in the FCT.

Obi had labeled the conditions at LEA Primary School, Kapwa, as “a national disgrace,” attributing the decline to poor leadership and misplaced priorities. In response, Wike accused Obi of politicizing the issue and using emotional appeals to gain sympathy online. He questioned Obi’s credentials to criticize others, pointing out that as a former governor of Anambra State, Obi failed to complete significant projects during his tenure.

Wike stated, “If you had finished all the jobs in eight years, nobody would be talking about developing Anambra by now,” and he contrasted his achievements as FCT minister with Obi’s record. He emphasized that managing a small party does not qualify someone to govern a nation of over 200 million people, asserting that the presidency is not for individuals unable to maintain party unity.
