Worshippers at a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the Somolu area of Lagos narrowly escaped death on Monday when a two-storey building under construction collapsed onto the church.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, reported that the collapse occurred during the decking process, with one of the building’s pillars falling onto the church. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Upon arrival, emergency responders conducted a search and confirmed that no one was trapped under the debris. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding safety near the collapsed site.

Earlier reports highlighted similar tragedies, including a recent incident where multiple family members lost their lives in a building collapse in Ikorodu.
