Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks political irrelevance in 2027 if it fails to overcome internal divisions and selfish agendas. Speaking during his monthly media chat with journalists in Abuja, Wike warned that the opposition party is currently directionless and plagued by impunity, despite its status outside of power.

Wike criticized the PDP leadership for turning a blind eye to internal contradictions, such as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) openly endorsing Labour Party’s Alex Otti for a second term, while condemning others for allegedly supporting President Tinubu. “You have not won an election, but you are excluding people,” he said, warning that repeating the same strategy used in 2023 would “backfire.”

He described the defection of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “smart move” and accused the PDP of failing to heed earlier warnings about such high-profile defections. According to him, he had personally cautioned unnamed governors but was ignored.

Wike defended his own political choices, stating that despite not supporting the PDP presidential candidate in 2023, he ensured a total PDP victory in Rivers State for all other elections. “Let any governor come out to say they delivered 100 percent like I did,” he challenged.

He also dismissed claims that his ministerial role in the APC-led government was a betrayal, asserting that opposition parties should focus on organizing to take power, not fighting internal battles or scapegoating members like himself.

The FCT Minister emphasized that without unity, vision, and proper leadership, the PDP would struggle to survive let alone win elections in 2027.
