PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki has affirmed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike remains his friend, despite Wike’s expulsion from the party. Turaki, in an interview on the Nigeria Right Now Show, also stated that the PDP has formed a legal team to challenge the defection of 16 Rivers State Assembly members.
Turaki acknowledged the right of the Rivers and Osun governors to defect but emphasized the moral implications of their actions. He said those joining the new party should consider how their character will be perceived.
Addressing the Rivers State situation, Turaki claimed the APC instigated the crisis, regretting that Governor Fubara sought refuge in the same party. He also mentioned that the PDP is seeking to reopen its sealed national secretariat and is in touch with Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi regarding the 2027 presidential ticket, although the people will ultimately decide the party’s candidate.
Turaki admitted to past mistakes within the PDP, stating, “We have learnt our lessons… This is a new sheriff in town. We will take the party back to the people.”
