The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Nyesom Wike has dismissed a recent ruling from the Oyo State High Court as inconsequential and non-binding. This faction, led by the caretaker committee, argues that the November 2025 convention, which resulted in the election of a National Working Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, remains invalid.

The court’s decision upheld the convention held on November 15 and 16, but the Wike faction insists that earlier judgments from the Federal High Court effectively barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the event. They emphasized that the Oyo court ruling has no authority over INEC, as it was neither joined nor represented in the lawsuit.

The Wike faction stated that the judgment is irrelevant, reiterating that it does not change the legal landscape regarding the party’s leadership. They have asserted that recent judgments reaffirm that the attempted convention is not recognized and that they are moving forward with plans for upcoming party congresses.

While maintaining support for their internal committee, the Wike faction remains critical of the legal maneuvers surrounding the convention and insists that further actions will be taken in light of this ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP.
