President Bola Tinubu announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered assets worth over N500 billion and secured more than 700 convictions in the past two years. He made this declaration while opening the 7th edition of a three-day capacity-building workshop for judges and justices, organized by the EFCC in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu attributed the EFCC’s success to his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring no interference in the agency’s operations. He stated, “As an administration, we have prioritized public accountability by strengthening the anti-corruption agencies and giving them the independence to execute their mandates.”

The President explained that recovered proceeds from corruption are being redirected into developmental projects and social investment programs across various sectors, including student loans and consumer credit schemes. He emphasized that no political actor is above the law, asserting that this administration does not shield any individual based on political affiliation.

Tinubu urged judges and justices to perform their duties with integrity, highlighting that corruption affects all sectors of society. He warned that maintaining public confidence in the judicial system is crucial for the fight against corruption. “A Nigeria free of corruption is possible if we all commit to doing what is right,” he declared, calling for collective action among the executive, legislature, and judiciary to strengthen the anti-corruption effort.

The President reiterated the importance of a robust judicial system in achieving success in anti-corruption initiatives, encouraging judges to uphold their constitutional responsibilities in delivering justice.
