National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has issued a stern warning that any violence during the upcoming Anambra State governorship election will prompt a decisive response from security agencies. This statement was made during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ribadu, represented by Hassan Yahaya Abdullahi, Director of Internal Security at the Office of the NSA, assured that comprehensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a peaceful and credible election scheduled for November 8.

He highlighted the establishment of robust security arrangements, including enhanced surveillance and the deployment of sufficient security personnel, aimed at preventing disruptions by any political factions.

“Political leaders and candidates must take full responsibility for maintaining peace,” Ribadu emphasized, cautioning that security forces will not tolerate any violent acts that could destabilize the election process.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, reaffirmed the commission’s readiness for the election, stating that all logistical and security preparations are finalized. He noted the deployment of approximately 24,000 personnel across 5,718 polling units in the state.

Amupitan urged security agencies to collaborate effectively to ensure a safe voting environment, warning against vote-buying and other electoral malpractices.

The meeting brought together military, police, and paramilitary representatives, reflecting ongoing efforts to ensure a violence-free and transparent electoral process in Anambra State.
