USAID Funded Boko Haram, Other Terror Groups – US Congressman

US Congressman Scott Perry has alleged that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has funded terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram. Perry made these claims during a hearing of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, focusing on the misappropriation of taxpayer funds.

Perry stated, “Your money, $697 million annually, plus the shipments of cash funds in Madrasas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, ISIS Khorasan, terrorist training camps. That’s what it’s funding.” He criticized USAID for a reported $136 million allocated for building schools in Pakistan, asserting there is no evidence that these schools were constructed.

The congressman expressed concern about programs like the Women’s Scholarship Endowment and Young Women Lead, questioning the effectiveness of these initiatives given the oppressive conditions for women in regions like Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

He further condemned the alleged mismanagement of funds, claiming, “You are funding terrorism, and it’s coming through USAID.” Perry’s remarks align with broader criticism from former President Donald Trump, who has called for the closure of USAID, labeling it corrupt.

This discourse reflects ongoing debates about the effectiveness and oversight of US foreign aid programs, particularly in regions troubled by violence and terrorism.
