In a significant political shift, three members of the House of Representatives officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The defectors include two lawmakers from Kano State elected on the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) platform and one from Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Kabiru Usman, who represents the Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency, and Abdullahi Sani, representing Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency, both announced their departure from the NNPP. Joining them was Wole Oke of Osun State, previously a PDP representative.
The defections were formally recognized in the House of Representatives, with APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje present in the chamber to welcome the new members into the ruling party.
No immediate reasons were publicly given for the lawmakers’ decisions to switch parties. However, such defections often signal strategic political realignments ahead of upcoming elections or internal party disputes.
