At least two individuals were reported dead during a violent All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre, Ondo State, on February 18, 2026. Several others sustained injuries during the incident, which also resulted in a vehicle being set ablaze.
The violence erupted shortly after suspected political thugs disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Akure. The congress was unable to proceed in certain wards due to attacks by hoodlums.
One victim, identified as Raphael Adetimehin, the brother of the state APC chairman, was attacked at his ward. He was reportedly shot and macheted by assailants who mistook him for his brother. Ade Adetimehin, the chairman, expressed his shock, stating, “They thought I was the one because we resemble each other very well.”
The state police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, was contacted for comments but had no immediate updates.
