Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State led heartfelt tributes to the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Managing Director of Access Holdings, during a memorial service held in Lagos. The service commemorated the first anniversary of Wigwe’s tragic passing alongside his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizi, who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, in the United States.
The memorial, organized by Access Holdings, saw friends, colleagues, and loved ones gather at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels, to honor the legacy of Wigwe.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, recognized Wigwe’s profound impact beyond the corporate sphere. He noted Wigwe’s dedication to societal upliftment through his philanthropic efforts in education, youth empowerment, and healthcare.
Sanwo-Olu, the first to deliver a tribute, described Wigwe as a staunch supporter of his government’s initiatives. He remarked on how much Lagos has felt Wigwe’s absence over the past year, stating that several projects would have progressed more swiftly had he been alive.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, through the Acting CEO of Access Holdings, Bolaji Agbede, expressed the deep wound left by the loss of Wigwe and his family.
As the memorial service concluded, attendees reflected on the significant contributions Wigwe made during his lifetime, reinforcing his legacy as a leader committed to positive change in Nigeria.
