The Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was reportedly stripped naked by suspected thugs in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The incident occurred at Uwa Primary School, where Obaseki had gone to play football. A video circulating online shows him being attacked before the assailants reportedly took him to the Oba’s Palace, making him kneel at the gate.
According to reports, the thugs informed palace guards that Obaseki was an “Oghion” (enemy) of the Oba. Some palace chiefs, speaking in the Bini language, reminded the attackers that the Oba was en route to the Holy Arousa Cathedral for a thanksgiving service marking the end of the Igue festival and urged restraint.
Despite protests from the suspected thugs, the palace chiefs eventually took Obaseki inside the palace for safety. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, and further details are expected as investigations continue.
The incident has sparked outrage online and raised concerns about security for prominent individuals and their families in Edo State. Authorities are yet to comment on the attack.
