In another revealing account from her newly launched book, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari,” former First Lady Dr. Aisha Buhari discusses the health struggles of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the challenging dynamics within their family during his presidency.
Dr. Buhari claims that her husband suffered from a long history of malnutrition, which significantly impacted his health while in office. She revealed that her meticulous management of his diet and supplements prior to their move to the Presidential Villa was disrupted by influential aides who allegedly turned her husband against her.
According to Dr. Buhari, some powerful individuals within the presidential circle instigated distrust, leading the former president to lock his room against her. “They said I wanted to kill him,” she recounted, expressing her deep hurt over the betrayal. This manipulation, she asserts, culminated in a serious deterioration of his health, as his dietary routine was abandoned, and meals became irregular.
During the book launch held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Aisha Buhari stated that when her husband was rushed to London for medical treatment, doctors prescribed a more stringent regimen of supplements than what she had previously provided, highlighting the neglect of his nutritional needs.
Addressing allegations of poisoning, she firmly denied such claims, attributing her husband’s health issues to the mismanagement of nutrition rather than any malevolent plots. “He didn’t have a chronic illness,” she emphasized, noting that proper care and consistent nutrition were crucial, especially for an elderly individual.
