Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, faced a significant setback on Wednesday when he was barred from entering the official quarters of the state House of Assembly. The assembly, located along Aba Road, has been a gathering place for lawmakers who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
Arriving at the complex with high-ranking officials, including Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo and Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, Fubara found the gates firmly locked, preventing any access.
In a statement to the press, Fubara accused Speaker Martin Amaewhule of intentionally evading communication, noting that multiple calls and a formal letter requesting a meeting went unanswered. “Unfortunately, as you can see, the place is completely sealed, and there is no indication of any proceedings today,” he remarked.
Fubara emphasized that his intentions were rooted in serving the public interest, reaffirming his dedication to his constitutional responsibilities. “I don’t think there is anything to worry about. I expect to hear from them after today,” he added.
Following the press briefing, the governor and his team departed the assembly premises, leaving the situation unresolved for the time being.
This incident underscores the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State as Fubara navigates challenges from factions within the assembly.
