Following devastating floods in Adamawa State that have left many missing and hundreds displaced, other states are taking urgent measures to prevent similar disasters. Floodwaters have wreaked havoc in communities like Shagari Low Cost and Yolde Pate, prompting emergency responses nationwide.

As heavy rains began early Sunday, many homes collapsed, and initial reports indicated at least eight fatalities, with many children among the missing. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been involved in rescue operations, recovering bodies and assisting affected residents.

In response to the floods, various states, including Anambra, Sokoto, Gombe, Edo, Ogun, and Bayelsa, are activating flood preparedness plans. Anambra’s government has formed committees to strategize for potential flooding, while Edo has been desilting drains to mitigate effects. Bayelsa State, lying six feet below sea level, has prepared shelters for displaced residents.

Sokoto is conducting impact assessments in severely affected local government areas, and Imo State is also preparing flood response plans. Ogun State officials are on a sensitization campaign to educate residents about flood risks and promote environmental responsibility.

State governments are emphasizing the importance of public awareness and proactive measures to reduce the impact of future floods.
