Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has criticized the substantial security presence surrounding Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at the recent Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism Awards in Lagos, he expressed concern that the excessive number of armed security personnel reflects negatively on Nigeria’s security priorities.
Soyinka highlighted that while global leaders’ families often receive protection, this privilege should not be taken to extremes. He recounted an experience where he was surprised to see what appeared to be a major film production outside his hotel, only to discover it was actually a heavily armed security detail. Soyinka described the scene, noting that the presence of so many armed individuals gave the impression that they could easily take control of a neighboring city.
