The Senate has established a seven-man committee tasked with harmonizing contributions and opinions regarding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2026. This decision follows over two hours of deliberation during a closed-door session.

The committee will be chaired by Senator Niyi Adegbomore, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters. Other members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Aminu Tambuwal, Adams Oshiomhole, Danjuma Goje, Tony Nwoye, and Titus Zam.

The committee has been given three days to complete its work and submit a consolidated report by the following Tuesday. Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized the importance of careful scrutiny of the bill, particularly as it pertains to the upcoming elections. He stated that ensuring the integrity of the electoral process is paramount to avoid future disputes.

According to preliminary findings, the bill aims to enhance electoral integrity, transparency, and public confidence, establishing a lasting legacy for Nigeria’s electoral framework.
