President Bola Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police officers providing security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) in Nigeria. This directive, communicated by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, aims to refocus police resources on core duties due to ongoing security challenges, especially in remote areas with insufficient police presence.
VIPs will now need to request protection from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps instead. The move is intended to boost police visibility and effectiveness in communities where law enforcement is critically needed.
Additionally, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 more police officers. The federal government is also collaborating with states to enhance police training facilities nationwide. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve security across the country amidst increasing threats.
The directive was established during a security meeting with senior military and police officials in Abuja, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining public safety.
