The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and imposed a 30-year ban on his involvement in all party activities.

In a statement released on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed the disciplinary action, citing violations of the party’s constitution, ideology, and guiding principles.

According to the statement, El-Rufai is prohibited from applying for membership or associating in any form with the SDP—whether through its symbols, organs, events, or financial support—effective immediately and lasting until 2055.

“El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying for membership, identifying with the name, insignia, logo, symbol, mark, or any activities, organs, agencies, and institutions of the SDP or donating to, supporting, contributing to, or participating in any affairs of the SDP for a period of 30 years effective from today,” the statement said.

The party further cautioned its members against engaging with El-Rufai or any individuals not aligned with SDP’s core interests.

The former governor had defected to the SDP after exiting the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was also recently linked with an opposition coalition that selected the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its unified platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
