Hundreds of supporters of the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, took to the streets on Tuesday, voicing their demands for his reinstatement. The demonstration began from Aggrey Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township, where protesters, dressed in black, carried placards with messages such as “Together we stand for Governor Sim Fubara” and “We want back our Governor; we all voted for.”

This protest is the latest development in a series of demonstrations that have erupted since March 18, when President Bola Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in the state, leading to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state’s House of Assembly.

The supporters rallied for what they see as a betrayal of their democratic choice, asserting that Fubara represents the interests and pride of the Rivers people. The protests come amid a backdrop of political tension and unrest in the region, with both pro and anti-Fubara factions mobilizing their supporters.
