The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the federal government, threatening a nationwide strike if their outstanding demands are not met. This decision was made during an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting.

Previously, NARD had given a three-week ultimatum in July, which was extended by another three weeks for further dialogue. However, the association expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to fulfill its promises, including the non-payment of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and five months of arrears from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) review.

NARD also criticized the federal government for not paying the 2024 Accoutrement Allowance and condemned the “unjust downgrading” of membership certificates by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). Additionally, they highlighted issues in Kaduna and Oyo states, where agreements with local doctors have not been honored.

The association’s demands include the immediate payment of the 2025 MRTF, settlement of outstanding CONMESS arrears, and the restoration of recognition for West African postgraduate membership certificates.

NARD emphasized that failure to address these issues by September 10, 2025, will leave them with no choice but to initiate a nationwide strike.
