The Jigawa State Government has approved a reduction in official working hours for civil servants for the duration of the 2026 Ramadan fast.
The adjustment was conveyed in a statement signed by the State Head of Civil Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, and made available to journalists in Dutse. According to the statement, Governor Umar Namadi approved the change to allow workers more time to observe the holy month.
Under the new arrangement, civil servants will work from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, instead of the usual 5:00 pm closing time. On Fridays, working hours will be from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Dagaceri said the move is expected to boost morale and productivity during Ramadan, noting that it will ease the burden on workers and give them more time to prepare for iftar and participate in spiritual activities.
He also encouraged civil servants to use the period to pray for peace, stability and economic prosperity in Jigawa State and across Nigeria, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
Some workers in Dutse welcomed the development, describing it as a thoughtful gesture that would help them balance official duties with the spiritual demands of Ramadan.
