Achraf Hakimi has said he is prepared to face trial following a rape allegation made against him, maintaining that the judicial process will ultimately establish the truth.
The Moroccan international, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is accused by a 24-year-old woman of raping her at his home in Paris in 2023. Hakimi has consistently denied the allegation.
The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened a preliminary investigation into the matter in March 2023. Recent reports indicate that the case will now proceed to trial, though no date has been fixed.
Reacting via his social media account on X, Hakimi said he would contest the charge in court.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial,” he wrote. “This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
Hakimi’s lawyer also confirmed that legal proceedings would move forward, stating that the player is determined to defend himself.
“A trial has been ordered,” the lawyer said in a statement, adding that they await the hearing “with determination and resolve so that justice may be served.”
Despite the ongoing legal process, Hakimi has continued to feature for PSG and was included in the squad for their UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off second-leg fixture against AS Monaco.
The 27-year-old defender has made 194 appearances for PSG and was part of the side that won both the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 titles last season. He was also named in the FIFPRO men’s world team of the year at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris.
Hakimi is expected to represent Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the North African side will face Scotland national football team, Haiti national football team and Brazil national football team in the group stage.
The case now moves to the trial phase, where the court will examine the evidence and determine the outcome of the allegation.
