Kemi Adeosun, former Minister of Finance, claims “powerful enemies” within ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s government orchestrated her 2018 resignation by exploiting the NYSC certificate controversy.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, Adeosun said these influential figures saw the allegations of a forged NYSC certificate as an opportunity to remove her from office. She informed Buhari of her intent to resign and pursue legal action to clear her name. Adeosun felt remaining in the cabinet while suing the government would have been unethical.
Adeosun noted that Buhari supported her decision, advising her that protecting her name and legacy was more important than holding public office. She emphasized that she was the only finance minister to voluntarily resign under that administration. In July 2021, a Federal High Court ruled she could not be penalized for holding public office without an NYSC certificate.
