The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Inspector Obic Modestus, the officer caught on camera brutally assaulting an Uber driver in Lagos.
A widely circulated video, shared on social media by user @dammiedammie35, showed the officer repeatedly hitting the driver, prompting public outrage. “This is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal,” the user wrote.
In response, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Monday that Inspector Modestus has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and will be handed over to the Provost Department for disciplinary action.
“The Lagos State Police Command, under Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public,” Hundeyin said in a statement.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about police brutality and the need for reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
