The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has publicly challenged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to disclose the names of those allegedly pressuring him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. This challenge follows Mutfwang’s recent claims that he has been approached by several APC members urging him to join their ranks.
During a speech at the Government House banquet hall in Jos, Mutfwang asserted that only divine guidance and the will of the electorate would dictate his party affiliation. He emphasized, “It is not a lie that they are putting pressure on me… only two people would authorize me to change my party: the God of heaven and the people.”
In response, Shittu Bamaiyi, the acting publicity secretary of the APC in Plateau State, dismissed Mutfwang’s assertions as “self-denial.” He suggested that the governor’s claims were a diversion from his administration’s shortcomings. Bamaiyi stated that if Mutfwang had effectively served the interests of Plateau residents, discussions about his potential defection would not arise.
Bamaiyi further critiqued Mutfwang’s leadership, asserting that it reflects poorly on a sitting governor when the opposition expresses reluctance to welcome him into their party, even as they aim for future electoral success.
The exchange highlights the ongoing political dynamics in Plateau State as tensions rise around party loyalty and governance effectiveness ahead of upcoming elections.
