The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified following the Board of Trustees’ (BoT) endorsement of former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who has accused the BoT of overstepping its authority.

In an exclusive interview, Anyanwu dismissed the BoT’s affirmation, highlighting that many members’ tenures expired last October. He asserted, “I am not and was never involved in any financial infraction of any kind,” emphasizing his readiness to contest the decision.

The BoT, chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, reaffirmed Ude-Okoye’s position based on a Court of Appeal ruling. This situation has exacerbated existing tensions within the PDP, which has struggled with internal divisions since the 2023 elections.

Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman, faces mounting criticism for the party’s ongoing difficulties. The conflict over the National Secretary position has been contentious, particularly after the South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who is also the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.

In response to the BoT’s endorsement, Anyanwu filed petitions with various authorities, insisting he remains the rightful National Secretary. His supporters have also urged him to step aside for the sake of party unity, while others argue that he should continue in his role until legal matters are resolved.

The BoT’s recent decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some calling for a meeting with Anyanwu to foster dialogue and resolve the ongoing crisis within the party.
