The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu has filed a petition with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding an alleged forgery of his signature.
In documents dated October 15 and submitted to the relevant authorities, Anyanwu stated that he did not sign a letter sent to INEC concerning the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15-16. This letter, dated August 29, allegedly bore his signature without his consent.
Tensions within the PDP have been heightened by internal disputes, particularly among allies of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. Issues surrounding the leadership of Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum and disagreements over micro-zoning for the convention have led to a court case aimed at halting the event.
In his petition, Anyanwu described the situation as shocking and called for investigations into the alleged criminal conduct by PDP officials and their collaborators at INEC. His calls for accountability include a request for those involved to be prosecuted.
The court proceedings related to this matter have been adjourned, with a hearing set for October 20. Anyanwu’s claims and the ongoing disputes raise significant concerns about the stability and integrity of the PDP as they approach their national convention.
