The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an investigation into reports that senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly received land and cash gifts from a powerful minister in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
The party warned that such allegations could undermine public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system. Speaking through factional National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP urged INEC to address the claims with full transparency.
“The media space was awash with reports alleging that the minister offered land and cash gifts to senior staff of the commission,” the statement said, adding that these benefits were not extended to workers in other critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and security.
The PDP called on INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan to clarify whether he or any top officials were beneficiaries. “The commission must strive to be, like Caesar’s wife, above board, ensuring transparency and impartiality in both words and actions,” the statement emphasized.
