A violent attack by unidentified gunmen in the Ekwulobia and Oko communities of Anambra State has resulted in the deaths of at least four people and left several others injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the heavily armed assailants invaded the area around 8 AM on Wednesday, firing indiscriminately and targeting a joint security patrol team.
The gunmen also set fire to a security vehicle and other cars, causing widespread panic among residents. While eyewitness accounts suggest a higher casualty figure, police authorities reported two fatalities.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the security forces responded to the incident and engaged the attackers in a gun battle. A number of vehicles were recovered at the scene, along with firearms.
Despite the chaos, the police have assured residents that normalcy has returned to the area and urged them to remain calm as security measures are strengthened. The situation remains under close monitoring as investigations continue.
