Nelson Adepoyigi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been confirmed dead after being abducted by kidnappers. Clement Kolapo Ojo, the Chairman of Ose LGA, announced the tragic news in a statement on Sunday morning, expressing deep sorrow over Adepoyigi’s brutal killing while noting that two ransom bearers had been released.

Adepoyigi was kidnapped on Monday evening as he arrived at his home on the Ifon/Owo road. Initially, his captors demanded a ransom of N100 million, which was later negotiated down to N5 million. The situation worsened when the gunmen detained two individuals who had come to help with the ransom, subsequently demanding an additional N30 million for Adepoyigi and the others.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a team of security personnel is currently searching for Adepoyigi’s body in the bush. Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi was not available for comment regarding the case.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar tragedy in 2023 when suspected gunmen killed Bola Adelegbe, the younger brother of a federal lawmaker, shortly after his abduction in Ose. The ongoing violence and kidnappings in the region underscore the persistent security challenges affecting local communities.
