First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has unveiled a plan to support 250 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT with grants of N200,000, as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
This announcement came during a food distribution event in Abia State, where food items were handed over for vulnerable residents through the state’s First Lady and RHI coordinator, Lady Priscilla Otti.
Represented by Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, Mrs Tinubu disclosed that food items have so far been distributed in 11 states and the FCT. She emphasized that the initiative is also focusing on education, sanitation, tree planting, and menstrual health, with plans to distribute 10,000 sanitary pad packs per state to help keep girls in school.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, commended the initiative, stating it has the potential to reduce poverty and empower disadvantaged groups, especially if sustained.
Lady Otti assured equitable and transparent distribution across religious, political, and ethnic groups, saying, “Hunger has no ethnicity, religion, or political leaning.”
The RHI program aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader social protection and empowerment agenda.
