The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Tanko Yunusa, has stated that the movement will remain within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and abide by the outcome of the party’s presidential primary, even if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges as the candidate.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Yunusa emphasized the movement’s commitment to democratic principles and asserted that they would engage in fair competition alongside other aspirants. He expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the movement’s favored candidate, would prevail due to his substantial support base.
Yunusa remarked, “As democrats, we will go in there and contest equitably well with every contestant based on democratic tenets. We believe that at the end of it all, Mr. Peter Obi will come out on top with the large teaming population that he is bringing into the ADC.”
When asked about the implications of Atiku Abubakar winning the primary, Yunusa reiterated, “We will remain at the party and give the party the lease of life it demands democratically.”
He noted that the ADC has gained traction since Obi’s entry, describing the party as a “vehicle” revitalized by his involvement. Yunusa reinforced that the Obidient Movement consists of intelligent youth demanding clarity and governance, with millions ready to join the ADC.
He criticized the current government for using “negative executive power” against Nigerians and urged citizens to exercise their “positive executive power” through democratic participation.
Yunusa highlighted the growing support for the movement, confirming that several prominent political figures, including Senator Victor Umeh and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, have joined the ADC, indicating continued momentum leading into the 2027 elections.
