National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has commended Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara for his effective leadership, stating that President Bola Tinubu is pleased with the governor’s performance. Ribadu made this statement during a recent visit to the Rivers State Government House, where he led a delegation to foster ongoing peace efforts in Ogoniland.
Ribadu reported that a transformative phase is beginning for the Ogoni people, emphasizing that Nigeria is evolving, with significant changes commencing in the region. He conveyed President Tinubu’s gratitude to the Ogoni community for their support and patience, particularly regarding the planned resumption of oil exploration in Ogoni.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, highlighted the strategic importance of the Ogoni Peace Initiative, which aims to improve unity within Nigeria, affirming the President’s strong interest in the welfare of the Niger Delta people. Umahi noted the government’s commitment to completing critical infrastructure projects, including the East-West Road, which is expected to enhance connectivity in the Niger Delta.
The Minister of Environment emphasized the ongoing commitment to the Ogoni cleanup project, which includes various social initiatives. Meanwhile, Bayo Ojulare, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced that significant employment opportunities are being created for Ogoni indigenes as part of the dialogue process.
In response, Governor Fubara acknowledged President Tinubu’s intervention, recognizing the complexity of resolving long-standing issues in Ogoniland and reiterating his commitment to fostering peace and managing emerging conflicts to promote sustainable development.
