The State Chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in the North Central region have expressed unwavering support for the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, amidst ongoing political challenges. They have criticized the actions of Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, accusing them of creating confusion within the party for personal gain.

Alexander Ombugu, the Nasarawa State Chairman, spoke on behalf of the North Central Chairmen during a press conference in Lafia. He reaffirmed that Abure was duly elected during the March 2024 national convention and emphasized the chairmen’s commitment to supporting him throughout his tenure.

Ombugu stressed that there is no faction within the Labour Party, contrary to rumors. He stated, “The Labour Party does not have any faction… Our National Chairman is Julius Abure, and he is the only person that we know.”

The chairmen accused Obi and Otti of sowing disunity among party stakeholders, warning that this could jeopardize the party’s prospects in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Ombugu highlighted the North Central zone’s critical role in the party’s success, referencing the significant support Obi received during the last presidential election.

He urged both Obi and Otti to align with the party leadership to address their concerns, stating, “We will be happy if they come forward to the leadership of the party so that their complaints can be addressed.”

To foster unity, Ombugu called on all aggrieved members at various levels of the party to resolve their differences amicably to ensure a successful outcome in the next elections.
