The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that a recent diplomatic conflict with the United States, which saw President Donald Trump threatening military intervention over alleged mass killings of Christians, has largely been resolved. The Minister of Information and National Orientation stated this during a year-end press conference in Abuja.

The minister highlighted that respectful engagement had strengthened the partnership between Nigeria and the U.S. He pointed out that Nigeria successfully navigated complex diplomatic challenges throughout 2025. The country has also signed various bilateral agreements with the U.S., including a significant five-year health cooperation memorandum worth $5.1 billion. Under this agreement, the U.S. will provide $2.1 billion in grants, while Nigeria will invest $3 billion. This initiative is seen as the largest co-investment under the America First Global Health Strategy, aimed at improving Nigeria’s healthcare system, saving lives, and attracting investment.

The minister emphasized that Nigeria is no longer sidelined in international affairs; rather, it is a confident and strategic partner, actively defending its national interests. Additionally, he mentioned that newly appointed ambassadors would begin their postings in 2026, further enhancing Nigeria’s diplomatic relations and global presence. The deployment of these ambassadors is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s bilateral relations and its strategic engagement on the world stage.
