A 38-year-old Nigerian, Samuel Ogun, also known as Stepney Derick, was arrested in Faridabad for allegedly defrauding multiple women through matrimonial websites.
The Cybercrime Branch of Noida Police received complaints from at least two women reporting losses of ₹1.26 crore in January 2020 and ₹56.40 lakh in May 2025. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Shavya Goyal, Ogun posed as a wealthy businessman and convinced victims to transfer money by claiming he faced legal or customs issues while relocating to India.
Police discovered he maintained contact with 15–16 women simultaneously under different aliases. A raid on his residence recovered five mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, SIM cards, a Wi-Fi router, foreign currency, two fake passports, and forged documents. All devices have been sent for forensic examination to trace additional victims and financial trails.
Ogun was presented before the court, and investigations are ongoing, as authorities suspect he frequently traveled abroad to obtain new fake identities whenever his previous ones were compromised.
