The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, has confirmed that the Nigerian federal government has submitted the majority of the necessary documentation for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafra agitator. Musa made this announcement during an appearance on Channels Television’s year-end review program.

While he refrained from delving into specifics, the Defence Chief expressed optimism regarding the actions of the Finnish government in facilitating the extradition process. “Legal action is going to be taken accordingly on the matter,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal protocols.

Musa remarked, “I don’t want to say much about that, but I’m happy he has been arrested.” This follows Ekpa’s apprehension by Finnish law enforcement on November 21, after sustained pressure from the Nigerian government due to his alleged involvement in inciting violence against security agents in the South East.

In a significant move, a district court in Päijät-Häme has sentenced Ekpa to prison for “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media,” further complicating his legal situation. The CDS indicated that the Nigerian government has completed most of the requirements necessary for his extradition, stating, “So, I’m sure the right thing will be done going forward.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Ekpa of collaborating with the Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria, a claim that adds to the controversy surrounding his activities.

As the situation unfolds, many are watching closely to see how the Finnish government will respond to Nigeria’s extradition request and the implications it may have for regional security.
